Basic Law Debate Competition

Lingnan University Chinese Debate Team won the First Runner-up in the Basic Law Debate Competition organized by the Joint Committee for the Promotion of The Basic Law of Hong Kong.  Team members include Tan Tsz Wai, year 2 student of Associate of Arts (Chinese), and Chan Lok Hei, year 2 student of Associate of Arts (Philosophy).
 
This competition consists of 12 participating teams from various local tertiary institutions & universities, and our Lingnan Team has worked very hard to reach the final on 8 September 2018!  The debate topic of the Final Match was “National security is more important than freedom of speech in Hong Kong”.  The proposition side was Lingnan University Chinese Debate Team and the opposition side was a self-forming team from University students.
 
The semi-final match was held on 11 August 2018 and Lingnan University Chinese Debate Team played against another self-forming team.  Lingnan University Chinese Debate Team won 3:0 and Tan Tsz Wai also won the best debater of the match.
