Why Study Sport Business Management?

Sport business is a dynamic and competitive industry, involving globally recognised brands and hugely popular products, services, and events.  Students who study Sport Business Management will experience a professionally focused curriculum delivered with the support and use of ‘real life’ contexts and realistic sports-based working environments; an integrated learning experience facilitated through staff teams employing a variety of different delivery modes; opportunities to enhance and develop a range of relevant personal skills including problem solving, decision making and reflective skills; and engagement with a consultancy project, working with a sport company to enhance their business.

The Programme

Sport Business Management is designed to meet the sporting industry’s requirement for technically competent, customer oriented, commercially minded practitioners who have the flexibility and capability to apply their skills and knowledge in a variety of customer orientated environments, both for the domestic and the international market place. This will involve integrating sports science, management, professional and transferable skills. On graduation, students will be able to apply sound analytical techniques - underpinning scientific principles and management skills - to the challenges faced by the sports-related industries. You will experience a professionally focused curriculum delivered with the support of: 'real life' contexts and realistic sports-based working environments; an integrated learning experience facilitated through staff teams employing a variety of different delivery modes; opportunities to enhance and develop a range of relevant personal skills including problem solving, decision making and reflective skills; and engagement with a consultancy project, working with a sport business company to help solve a real-world business challenge.

Programme Structure

The entire programme consists of 9 modules and a work-based project to be completed in 12 months.  One module in each semester is co-taught by Faculty staff of the University of Stirling face-to-face in Hong Kong.

Teaching and Learning Support, Facilities and Services

Commencement
  • September / October every year
Teaching and Learning Activity
  • The teaching faculty of the University of Stirling co-teaches one module in each semester.
  • Normally there are 12 to 15 face-to-face contact hours per week
Learning Support
  • Courses are designed and coordinated by the University of Stirling (UoS)
  • Web-based learning platform and materials are provided by UoS
  • Additional academic support provided through consultation meetings with local lecturers
  • University of Stirling online learning resources
Medium of Instruction
  • Classes, assessments and course materials are in English.
Assessment
  • Assessments are designed to measure learning outcomes effectively, which includes individual assignment and examination/group project.
Pre-sessional Workshop
  • Pre-sessional workshops are provided to prepare students for undergraduate-level studies in English.
Teaching Venue
  • Classes are delivered at the Lingnan University Main Campus close to the Siu Hong Station of MTR West Rail Line.

Admission Requirements

Minimum Admission Requirements

In order to be eligible for admission to the programme, students have to be graduates of:
  • Higher Diploma or Associate Degree in relevant discipline with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 or above (out of 4.00), in which two sport-related courses and one business-related course are all at GPA of 2.33 or above; or
  • Equivalent qualifications
     
Requirement for English Proficiency
  • Successful completion of a Higher Diploma, Associate Degree or an equivalent qualification, where the language of instruction was English; or
  • Achieved an Academic IELTS of 6.0 with no band score below 5.5; or
  • Equivalent qualifications
