Admission Requirements

Associate Degree / Higher Diploma Programmes

  • Level 2 or above in five HKDSE subjects including Chinese Language and English Language[1][2][4] or
  • A recognised Diploma of Applied Education/ Diploma Yi Jin / Diploma; or
  • Aged 21 or above showing suitability and competence in taking the programme; or
  • Other equivalent qualifications to be assessed by LIFE

Diploma Programmes

  • Level 1 or above in English Language and Chinese Language; AND at least 6 points[3] in the best five subjects of HKDSE[1]; or
  • Aged 21 or above showing suitability and competence in taking the programme; or
  • Other equivalent qualifications to be assessed by LIFE

[1] Each applicant is allowed to use Applied Learning (ApL) subjects in the application. For the 2012-2017 HKDSE Examinations, students attaining the results of “Attained” and “Attained with Distinction” in the ApL subjects are accepted as attaining the competencies required at Level 2 and Level 3 or above of Category A subjects of the HKDSE Examination respectively for the purposes of further studies and work. Effective from the 2018 HKDSE Examination, the reporting of students’ performance is refined to “Attained”, “Attained with Distinction (I)” and “Attained with Distinction (II)”. Performance of “Attained with Distinction (I)” is comparable to Level 3 while “Attained with Distinction (II)” is comparable to Level 4 or above of Category A subjects of the HKDSE Examination.  
[2] For non-Chinese-speaking learners, LIFE accepts alternative Chinese Language qualifications. The ApL subjects do not include ApL Chinese (for non-Chinese speaking students) as this subject is introduced to provide an additional channel exclusively for non-Chinese speaking students to obtain an alternative Chinese language qualification.  ​
[3] HKDSE Levels 1 to 5 are converted into points 1 to 5 respectively, Level 5* = 6 points and Level 5** = 7 points.
[4] LIFE accepts "Attained" in the Citizenship and Social Development (CS) subject as meeting one of the five Level 2 requirements.Besides, Level 2 in Mathematics Extended Part (Module 1 or Module 2) is also recognised as one of the five HKDSE subjects in fulfilling the minimum entrance requirement.
